Jermey Strong Was Entirely on His BS for 'The Social Reckoning'

Jeremy Strong’s unbridled devotion to method acting famously led to him being criticized by his Succession co-star Brian Cox and was the center of an almost mocking profile in The New Yorker. So, you probably won’t be shocked to learn that Jer Bear toned absolutely none of that down for The Social Reckoning.

In an new interview with The New York Times, Andrew Sorkin revealed that Strong transformed into Mark Zuckerberg so deeply that the writer/director had to warn people on set ahead of time. (In case you missed the 800 headlines about it, Strong took over the role of Zuckerberg after Jesse Eisenberg understandably took a pass because he’d spent the past decade-plus being associated with the Facebook weirdo. He’d like that to stop happening.)

Jeremy does a lot of his own work. He does a tremendous amount of work before he shows up on your set. He did not speak in his own voice on the set or walk the way Jeremy walks. I told all the other actors in his scenes: “Guys, he’s not going to be hanging out with you at craft service. He’s not going to be yucking it up with you between takes. He’s probably not going to speak to you at all. He is going to treat you the way he imagines Mark treats the people around him.” And that’s what happened. You cannot argue with the results.

Sorkin didn’t detail how those interactions went down, but in a Pajiba exclusive, I dusted off my journalism degree and did some digging. Here’s what totally real sources told me under the condition of anonymity.

“When I said hello to Jeremy, he unhinged his jaw and made a modem sound for 45 minutes. It killed a bird.”

“He spent a whole weekend just standing in my pantry without moving. He didn’t even go to the bathroom once and it was a three-day. Our Wi-Fi has never been stronger.”

“He lives in my phone now. No, really, you can see him right near the camera button…”

“I’m not supposed to talk about this, but one night, he made me drive him to Elon Musk’s house and demand they fight MMA style right there on the lawn. Elon didn’t know what to do. Mostly because of the ketamine, but also, this was very clearly not Mark Zuckerberg. Eventually they fought, if you want to even call it that. Jeremy just kept yelling ‘Android Punch’ and I don’t think Elon even knows any of this happened. We eventually got in the car left after a while, but on the ride back, Jeremy said something I’ll never forget: ‘I think I broke character when Elon pissed himself. Tell anyone and I’ll find you in the dream world.’ Then he switched back to his Mark voice and asked if humans like Waffle House.”
