Denzel Washington Apparently Does Have a Flaw

Denzel Washington is the greatest actor of his generation and, perhaps, of any generation. I will not be debating this. Denzel Washington is wise and personable, fierce and loving. He is a man of faith. He is as good on the stage as he is on the screen. He does not do superhero films. He has been a mentor to the likes of Chadwick Boseman, Austin Butler, Mahershala Ali, Michael B. Jordan, and even Glen Powell. He hates Kevin Spacey! He has been married to the same woman for over 40 years. When Denzel sees a homeless man in distress, he will get out of his car and provide assistance.

God doesn’t make perfect people, but he did make Denzel. Unfortunately, he’s kept perhaps his biggest weakness hidden from the American public for decades: Denzel Washington is a longtime fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

I’m going to pause here and let you pick yourself up off the floor.

The Dallas Cowboys? Denzel! For shame! Denzel is from New York. He lives in Los Angeles. There is no geographic excuse for this. He voluntarily — willingly — became a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, which is not just a lousy team, but is owned by maybe the worst owner in all of sports, Jerry Jones, an Arkansas native. I’m an Arkansas native, and even I hate the Dallas Cowboys, the team assigned to me geographically at birth that I neverthless rejected. Because they are the Dallas Cowboys, the darkest stain in an already stained NFL.

But at least, Denzel — who appeared on Stephen A. Smith’s talk show (another strike against you, Denzel) — cannot abide by Jerry Jones’s decisions, so it’s not all bad.

“I don’t like what (Jones) is doing … I respect the owner, but I don’t like what it’s doing to the fans,” Washington said on the show. “He’s not thinking about us, the fans. He’s thinking about his pockets. It’s like … there’s box office and there’s the Oscars. And you ain’t been to (the Oscars) in a minute. At the end of the day, I’m still gonna wear my hat with the star on it.”

Did Denzel Washington say that he “respects the owner”? I take it back. It is all bad. You’re killing me, Denzel! And he goes out, in public, wearing a Dallas Cowboys hat on his head for everyone to see? He says he’s been a Cowboys fan since the ’60s, which doesn’t help his case. The Giants and the Jets were right there. And he chose the Cowboys?

I’m going to be sick to my stomach. Folks: Never find out your heroes’ favorite teams.
