Comic-Con Teases Our TV Future: Anne Rice, 'Welcome to Derry,' and 'Star Trek'

San Diego’s Comic-Con isn’t what it used to be, and that’s probably for the best. Now that Marvel no longer dominates the event, it’s starting to regain some of its cool, Jared Leto at the Tron: Ares panel notwithstanding. It’s also become a solid place to promote future projects, and for an outfit like AMC without a massive studio budget, it levels the playing field a bit.

AMC, for instance, appeared to be teasing the eventual demise of The Walking Dead franchise while also hyping its replacement: more Anne Rice. We learned that season three of Interview with the Vampire will shift focus to the Vampire Lestat, and that the next Anne Rice series will be Talamasca, centered on a secret society that tracks and contains witches, vampires, and other creatures. Interview’s Eric Bogosian will appear in Talamasca alongside Nicholas Denton, William Fichtner, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Elizabeth McGovern, and Celine Buckens. Jason Schwartzman will also guest star.

Here’s the first trailer. The series debuts on October 26.

Elsewhere, we got a second teaser for IT: Welcome to Derry, which also drops in October. This one on HBO Max.

I’m really not a Star Trek person, aside from the JJ Abrams movies (sorry). There never seems to be a good entry point into the TV world of Star Trek. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy might finally change that, and with Paul Giamatti, Holly Hunter, and Tig Notaro on board, I’ll at least give it a shot.

Starfleet Academy isn’t expected until 2026.
