Brad Pitt Was Reportedly Drinking at Taylor Swift's Wedding

As part of Brad Pitt’s PR rehabilitation following his infamously volatile divorce from Angelina Jolie, he’s made a big show of emphasizing his sobriety in a clear effort to blame the alleged 2016 plane incident on his drinking. And let’s be real, it was probably a large factor.

Pitt has long credited Dax Shepard with helping him kick the bottle, and Pitt was on Armchair Expert just the past June hanging with his old chum. So, there’s a reason why this moment in Pitt’s newest interview with Esquire had everyone saying, “Excuse me, he said what now?”

I ask him if the wine is something for guests?

“No, I got — I was sober for seven years. And then I got back off the wagon.” Little laugh. He raises his famous opposing-diacritic eyebrows and holds a finger up: “In a more restrained manner. I got overconfident a couple times, went, Yep, nope, not good for me. Not in big quantities.”

“You can have a glass of wine.”

“Yeah. Well… I can have a few. But I can’t have a lot. I have to be professional about it.”

I’m no sobriety expert, but I’m pretty sure that’s bad. Even when given an off-ramp to say he has the occasional drink — which would still be concerning — Brad Pitt doesn’t even bother with the artifice anymore. He just straight-up admits that he has a few whenever he wants, but don’t worry, he totally knows when to call it a night. So, this just went from bad to worse, and apparently, this is not a recent development.

According to Page Six, Pitt was spotted drinking at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding that kicked off the Fourth of July weekend. Reportedly, guests were “shocked” to see Pitt openly imbibing.

In fairness to Pitt (stay with me), this summer saw even more of his kids ditch his last name as the twins turned 18, freeing Angelina Jolie from keeping them bound to Los Angeles. Did he bring all of that on himself? He sure did. There’s no one to blame in that situation but Brad Pitt and the alleged terror he inflicted on his family.

As a human being and a father, I can’t help but feel concerned about a guy who openly admits he fell off the wagon only to later reveal that he contemplated suicide because of the “kid stuff.” Is that a calculated play for sympathy? The man is an actor. And I’m no way, shape, or form saying those kids owe him a second of their time. Quite the opposite! Jolie is right to get the heck out of Dodge. Still, the whole situation is super depressing, and hopefully, a cautionary tale about not destroying the one thing that all the money in the world can’t put back together.
