What’s the old saying about these two? Everything I’ve learned about Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, I’ve learned against my will? Yeah, go ahead and double that.
In yet another baffling parenting move that surprisingly doesn’t involve refusing to bathe their kids, Shepard recently opened up about an interaction he had with his 11-year-old daughter Delta. At the moment, she’s obsessed with having a baby, which to be fair is completely normal. I have a daughter who was the same age just a few years back, so this is familiar territory. However, like all things Shepard/Bell, they had to make things very, very weird.
According to Shepard, he wanted to make sure he wasn’t “judgmental” about Delta’s choices and was immediately supportive if she wanted to start the baby train at 18. Thankfully, she did not. (She’s not even my kid, and I wiped the sweat off my brow.) So Dax proceeded to have a conversation with an 11-year-old about freezing her eggs. He just assumed she’d want to have a baby between the ages of 35 and 45, but have I mentioned the person he’s talking to is 11?
Via PEOPLE:
“I said, ‘If you want to, we’ll freeze your eggs when you’re 18. I’ll pay for you to get your eggs frozen so you don’t have to think about that,’ ” Shepard explained, adding, “acknowledging all luck and privilege, obviously, this isn’t an option for most people. But I think given where it’s, the trajectory it would make the most sense. I think they’re going to be wrestling with the same thing every woman is. You’re gonna want to do your career… .”However, Shepard said Delta thought his proposed age range was “crazy” and “too old.”
“Again, she’s 11 so that probably seems like 80,” Shepard noted. “She’s thinking mid-20s.”
Is anyone else getting huge Justin Baldoni vibes from this whole exchange? I totally get being a supportive dad who doesn’t want his daughter to be held back by outdated and patriarchal mores. Fully on board with that. Talking to an 11-year-old about freezing her eggs and then bragging on your podcast about it? RED FLAG.
One day, we’re going to hear some wild stories about this household when these kids grow up and/or Kristen Bell finally listens to Cher and makes a run for it. When Cher walks into your house and her immediate reaction is, “I do not get this marriage at all, jump out the window, girl,” one should take heed. That’s just me.
