Amazon Makes Huge Mistake by Leaking New Jason Statham Movie Early

Jason Statham is a bona fide action star, and it’s gotten to a point where the “formula” for his films is “what if Jason Statham fought [blank] or avenged his [blank].” And I don’t mean that in a bad way. The man has found his thing, and it works for him. He’s even got a movie coming out in which he plays himself, called Jason Statham Stole My Bike. But his newest film, Mutiny, just hit a huge bump thanks to Amazon, which has buyers freaking out.

According to Deadline, Amazon accidentally hosted Statham’s new movie on its service for hours, even though it hadn’t even hit theaters yet (and is scheduled to do so today). Now, people close to the film say that it is being pirated and distributed illegally, which could cut into its box office, and they want to know how Amazon is going to make things right, which, like, don’t hold your breath.

I want the people who worked on Mutiny to get compensated; don’t get me wrong. It just seems highly unlikely that Amazon, a company that loves to skirt responsibilities whenever possible, will try to make things right even if it messed up so royally. But this isn’t a lost package that it can absorb thanks to its massive infrastructure. And the company has also made it clear over the years that it isn’t a fan of movie theaters (despite some exceptions). The corporation could easily write this off as “not our prob.”

And wouldn’t that just sound like the perfect setup for a Jason Statham movie? He’s part of something he cares about, and helping a bunch of folks do a job. Then that job is undone by an evil businessman (let’s call him Beff Jezos) who shows zero remorse and is also planning to take over space (or something). So, the only choice left is revenge. Statham infiltrates the company dressed as one of its delivery drivers and slowly but surely works his way up the ranks (with his feet and fists) until Jezos pays.

There was a period of time when the Reno 911 guys were writing a script about people stealing Action Comics #1 from Nicolas Cage (something that really happened), and it still bums me out that we never got that film. Yes, we got The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, but still. Using an actor this way can be a lot of fun, and if Amazon produced it, maybe it could end up making amends with Statha and the people it screwed over. Then it can accidentally leak that film, and boom, we got a sequel goin’!
