A Super Jacked Ryan Hurst Lobs Another Axe at 'God of War'

Ryan Hurst is continuing his odd relationship with Amazon’s God of War series, which recently saw the Kratos actor recast after tearing his bicep in an on-set injury. Back in February, when the show was getting eaten alive for its disastrous First Look image, Hurst seemingly leaned into the controversy by telling fans, “Don’t believe everything you see on the internet, kids.” It was an odd move considering this was an official image released by Amazon, but there appears to be a reason for Hurst’s frustration.

On the heels of widespread reports that producers are actively courting Dave Bautista to take over as Kratos, Hurst posted an image of his transformation for the titular God of War, and folks, my man got ripped. Opie is jacked. It was another weird move by Hurst, who’s basically been shunted from the project. But if his plan was to get fans on his side, it worked. It worked a whole lot.

“Amazon made the biggest mistake by not waiting for him to heal or simply asking if he can still do it,” one fan has now written in a lengthy thread on X, after seeing Hurst’s own photo. “There’s no one that can be a better Kratos than Ryan Hurst.”

“Seeing him in The Odyssey made me believe he can pull it off I don’t see why they want to rush this,” said another. “They did him DIRTY with that first pic,” said a third.

“That first official photo really didn’t do him any favors, THIS should have been our first look,” added another fan. “So it was just a bad photo shoot from Amazon… man looks fabulous in this,” said yet another.

In a nutshell, Hurst is letting God of War fans know that they could have had a bad b*tch. The dude was ready to go and went all out for the role, only to get cast aside because Amazon wants this thing to hit in Q4 27 or whatever. It’s probably for the best though. Hurst has been done dirty twice now: First, by the god awful first image, and then getting kicked to the curb when he dared to get injured. Here’s hoping they did right by him financially.
