Last month, Amazon’s live-action God of War series hit one heck of a speed bump when Kratos actor Ryan Hurst tore his bicep, forcing the streamer to recast the lead role or wait until next year to resume production. Since then, there have been rumblings of lesser-known being eyed for the part, so it came as a very huge surprise when Dave Bautista flew into the ring from out of nowhere. Not for nothing, Bautista has been notably shedding weight to be taken more seriously as an actor and not get typecast into muscle-bound roles. And, yet, Kratos would be exactly that type of role right down to the body paint. Presumably, Amazon must have pulled a dump truck full of money up to his house, and if so, they’re clearly sparing no expense to salvage this thing. Casting for Season 2 is already underway, so the show does seem like a priority. But Bautista? Wild stuff. (Variety)

Tiny_bookbot stopped reading Jessica Traynor’s heartbreaking collection of poems, New Arcana, when faced with her own heartbreak but recently picked it back up. “Throughout the collection runs imagery of the tarot deck, with the suggestion of cards being pulled, of the speaker attempting readings, reminding us how we all try so furiously hard to make sense of a world that often defies all sense.” What have you stopped reading because it was too close to real life? Did you pick it back up later? (Cannonball Read 18)
