Netflix Orders Up New Episodes of Your Favorite Freaky Science Fiction Series

Stolen from an 80s band called Pop Will Eat Itself, my alternate title for today’s best newsbite: Technology Will Eat Itself (and so will Netflix, probably). By that I mean, what kind of wormhole have we fallen into when we’re watching a series about our addiction to, and devolution through technology via technological devices, while simultaneously feeding our own technology addiction and…arguably devolving. Honestly, I don’t know if that made sense anywhere other than in my head, which only serves to fuel my ignored internal imperative to stop watching the kinds of things that keep me in constant fear of technologically advanced beings — whether disembodied artificial intelligence, or bodied robots, androids, drones, etc. — who will absolutely be the end of humanity as we know it. Devolve or evolve? I guess it depends upon your point of view. If any of this makes even a lick of sense, you probably count yourself as a fan of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror series, which originally aired on Britain’s Channel 4, and you’ll probably be strangely excited by the news that Netflix has made a deal to produce multiple new episodes.

Um, I mean…

Really, I’m sure we’ll all be fine. (*pats self on head*)

If you’ve somehow managed to miss the wonderfully warped world (think updated Twilight Zone…on crack and watching porn) Booker and Co. created, you can play catch up on Netflix right now. All seven episodes, starring people like Hayley Atwell, Domhnall Gleeson, Rory Kinnear, and Jon Hamm, are available (streaming).

See you on the so very dark other side.
