I’ve only been to an Alamo Drafthouse movie theater twice— both the last two years at South By Southwest— and those experiences alone have been enough to fuel my fantasies of moving to Austin (aided by the food, only slightly quelled by the traffic). So when I heard they were opening a Drafthouse theater in San Francisco, where I visit a few times a year at least, I was ecstatic. Good food, good movies, weird-ass YouTube videos instead of pre-movie ads, and NO PHONES ALLOWED! The theater opens this December, and I didn’t think anything could lessen my excitement.
That is, until Drafthouse went and totally overshadowed this new regular location by opening the coolest f*cking movie theater you’ve ever seen.
If you live in Omaha, Nebraska, you are officially the envy of nerds everywhere, since you now share that city with the Alamo Drafthouse’s Star Wars-themed location.
Check out those light panels from the lobby!
And yes, that’s a 10-foot-tall Death Star hanging in the lobby.
I imagine there’ll be a hell of a line, but you can even turn on the Death Star’s (hopefully non-functioning) laser using the controls on this throne.
The timing with the opening of The Force Awakens is fortuitous, but not a gimmick. Meaning, the theme won’t be cast aside after the movie’s release. It’s here to stay. So what do you say? Who’s hosting the Pajiba party in Omaha?
