In an historic, landmark decision, the Supreme Court has ruled 5-4 (fuck you, Scalia!) that the Constitution requires that same-sex couples be allowed to marry no matter where they live and that no state can reserve that right to heterosexual couples only. Swing-vote extraordinaire Justice Kennedy wrote the majority opinion, “The court now holds that same-sex couples may exercise the fundamental right to marry. No longer may this liberty be denied to them.”
It’s an opinion that felt inevitable, but at the same time, it’s long overdue.
