If Sony Wants to Solve Its 'Woman Problem' By Throwing Money at Jennifer Lawrence, She's Probably Okay With That

Of all the embarrassing stupid things said in the leaked Sony emails, one of the most embarrassingly stupid revelations was the fact that Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams were paid significantly less than their male counterparts in American Hustle. Combine that with a leaked list of why female superheroes don’t sell and the mean comments about Angelina Jolie, Sony has developed an image of being generally weird with women.

So it’s not exactly surprising to hear that Jennifer Lawrence’s salary for the upcoming sci-fi movie Passengers will be up to a quarter of the entire budget. Lawrence is said to be getting $20 million, while Chris Pratt, who will costar in the movie, is getting $10 million. (Though according to Indiewire, that may be bumped up if Jurassic World does well.)

Maybe this is the product of some stellar negotiations on Lawrence’s part, or maybe Sony is waving their arms up and down at us, shouting as loud as they can that they TOTALLY RESPECT WOMEN, HONEST. I’m gonna guess that Jennifer Lawrence is spending exactly zero time wondering which it is, as she swims around in her $20 million Scrooge McDuck money vault.
