As all you dangerous, counter-culture types out there know, on Super Bowl Sunday there is also another “sporting” event called the Puppy Bowl that airs on Animal Planet. Much like the real Super Bowl it features a hefty amount of sponsors and its own share of controversy-laden officiating, but unlike the Super Bowl it’s all puppies. You already know this. It will be on at 3pm ET today, so you’ve got some time to get ready for the puppy onslaught. If that’s too long for you to wait, here’s a Puppy Cam of some random puppies that aren’t in the puppy bowl!

Big changes have come to the Puppy Bowl this year as the two designated teams will be wearing little bandanas to help us all make sense of the veritable chaos that is the Puppy Bowl. I know what I want from my lava-lamp TV is more logic.
The legendary kitty halftime show will also be happening, this year the headliner will be Katty Purry, a full grown cat wearing a blue wig that looks like its plotting how to destroy all humans:
You can also catch some glimpses of the goat cheerleaders in there, as the Puppy Bowl continues the tradition of bringing in some random critters to highlight. I think it was hedgehogs last year. I find it hilarious that they’ve picked goats this year, because even people who LIKE goats will tell you without hesitation that they are of Satan.
There is also a kitten cam for those of you more feline inclined, though the kittens seem to be slightly better at avoiding the camera lens than the puppies.

So that’s your run down on this year’s Puppy Bowl, an even that has become far more elaborate than it ever needed to be. They’ve even got “pregame” videos up on the Animal Planet website because Animal Planet fundamentally misunderstands why people watch the Puppy Bowl; to get away from all the inane Super Bowl pregame coverage.
