Let's Needlessly Speculate on Jason Sudeikis' Pissy Face During Kristen Wiig's "SNL" Send-Off

Over the weekend as most of you know, Kristen Wiig got a first-of-a-kind send-off on “Saturday Night Live.” The final sketch of the evening, which led into the sign-off, involved Wiig dancing with each cast member. It was a touching scene, and Wiig was not without a few tears. In fact, each of her fellow cast members seemed to get caught up in the emotion of the moment.

Except Jason Sudeikis.

During his dance with Wiig, it’s hard to say what went on: Something was whispered, he received a comforting back rub, and he faded into the crowd with the rest of the cast members with a surly look on his face. While everyone else was reveling at sign-off, Sudeikis couldn’t be seen. I like to think that Kristen Wiig whispered into his ear the same thing Scarlett Johansson whispered into Bill Murray’s ear at the end of Lost in Translation or what Troy whispered into Abed’s ear in last week’s “Community.”

What’s obvious, however, is that Sudeikis was feeling something. Initial speculation from the news media suggested that he was feeling overwhelmed by the moment, that he and Wiig were close, and that he was broken up by her departure. More recent speculation, however, suggests that Sudeikis — who is rumored to leave the show himself — was angry because he didn’t get his own send off.

One NBC source tells us that the water-cooler talk at the TV net’s 30 Rock headquarters on Monday was that Sudeikis, who had been on-air as long as Wiig, was betraying some anger. He’s said to be upset about “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels’ decision “to single out Kristen” for praise.

“They’ve never done anything like that for anyone,” says the source, who adds, “There’s always a first time — but they should have been fair to Jason and Andy.”

Fueling speculation about Sudeikis’ exit was his appearance onstage with a wet-eyed Wiig and Samberg at the first “SNL” after-party at Rockefeller Plaza.

Frankly, my money is on the former. Apparently, Sudeikis hasn’t completely ruled out coming back in the fall to reprise his Mitt Romney impersonation for the presidential election, and no staff departures will be made official until July. Maybe Sudeikis was simply in a fight with his girlfriend Olivia Wilde. After all, reports say that the two were extra affectionate at the after-parties, so maybe Sudeikis slipped out for some make-up sex after the graduation scene.

The important thing is, it doesn’t really matter. I just like to speculate. And really: Look at the man’s face. He looks seriously perturbed.
