Spoilers for Stranger Things. Obviously. Don’t be dumb.

When we finally meet Hopper’s daughter, Sarah, and see her in the moments before she presumably gets sick and enters the hospital (and ultimately dies), it’s a weird moment.

The little girl looks around panicked. In the moment, it’s hard to tell if as a viewer you’re in the mindset of “trust nothing” or not, or if Sarah’s subsequent illness (we are under the impression it’s cancer but no one says so specifically) is wholly normal and tragically ordinary, in direct contrast with Will Byer’s “stranger” loss.

We may have been right the first time.

In a Reddit AMA, David Harbour who played Hopper was asked about Sarah’s illness. And his answer is very intriguing.

Do you know what specifically Jim’s daughter died of in the show?

Yes, but it’s a secret we may explore in s2, so don’t wanna say right now.

*shakes fist* HAWKINS LAB!
