History has made some odd bedfellows, and the internet makes odder ones. Imgur, one of the most popular image sharing sites on the internet, has partnered with the Digital Public Library of America to turn archival images into informational and educational gifs. They’ve even made some forever loops that loop nearly seamlessly in some cases. And some depicting a firing demonstration in Verdun from World War II.
They don’t have the kind of lizard-brain appeal of something like, say, Benedict Cumberbatch taking off a scarf, but it could be a nice way to entice people into learning more about a particular event or person. There’s also other images, like these maps and charts from historical sources.
