When the #AskHerMore campaign started at last year’s Oscars, it was in response to female celebrities’ exhaustion at only ever being asked about their outfits and accessories.
Of course, it’s not like anyone is asking the men about their thoughts on Syrian refugees, but they usually at least get asked about their work and their ambitions, and almost never are their diets brought up. The women may get gorgeous gowns and jewelry for free, so yes, they should probably talk about them and credit the designers, but the goal of this campaign was just to bring awareness to the idea that that’s not ALL women are capable of talking about.
The campaign has had some peaks (Ryan Seacrest did a surprising job at last year’s Oscars of having actual conversations with women) and some valleys (everything Giuliana Rancic has ever said), but at this weekend’s Emmys, a group of Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, a group “dedicated to helping young people cultivate their authentic selves,” showed us what women at home really want to hear about, and what women (and men) on the carpet are capable of talking about. Here’s just a smattering of some of the best questions posed by Twitter users, asked by Smart Girls.
Oh, and it wasn’t just young girls asking the questions from Twitter, either.
I highly recommend heading over to the Smart Girls website and spending some time with all the videos. There are a buttload, and they’re all great.
