About Frickin' Time

138th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on USA at 8:00pm ET. For some reason the first night of this didn’t show up on the site I use for listings, so I apologize. But hey! Doggies! I’m always amazed at the people who can attend these events without running around rubbing every belly they can get their hands on while asking all the competitors “who’s a good doggy?” (Answer: they are!)

2014 Olympic Winter Games on NBC at 8:00pm ET. Women’s ski jumping makes its Olympic premiere tonight. It’s been kept out of the Olympics for this long due to the strong belief that ski jumping could damage women’s uteruses. This flatly ridiculous understanding of the female anatomy is backed up by the nice break down over at Deadspin as well as this Washington post article quoting an IOC member who still genuinely believed this. Evidently, ski jumping poses a greater risk to women’s organs than the more dangerous sports of snowboard half-pipe, moguls skiing, downhill skiing, or any of the other ridiculously risky events women already compete in, apparently. Anyway, blistering stupidity aside, women’s ski jumping is now an official Olympic sport and if you watch only one Olympic event this year, please make it this one. For me, for women in general, and specifically for Abby Hughes up there who could really use your support, as the US only got to send three jumpers to the games this year and she was one who couldn’t make the cut despite being internationally ranked.

New Girl on Fox at 9:00pm ET.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Fox at 9:30pm ET.

Justified on FX at 10:00pm ET.

Genevieve Burgess notes that testicles seem in a much more likely position to be injured while one is engaged in sporting activities.
