AMC’s Preacher, from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and based upon Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic book series, is ramping up for production. Earlier this week, we learned that Dominic Cooper — who plays Howard Stark in the Marvel universe — is the frontrunner to play the male lead in the series.
Now we have a female lead, and this one is official, per Deadline: Ruth Negga — who plays Raina in Agents of SHIELD — has been cast as Tulip, the gun-toting girlfriend of Jesse Custer.
How is the cesspool that is Twitter taking the news of Negga playing the role of a woman who was blonde in the comics? Let’s see:
Ruth Negga can act her ass off

I whole-heartedly approve of Ruth Negga as #Preacher's Tulip. The woman can ACT. http://t.co/ylIcQHgPy9

@burntcopper If I can't have Katee Sackhoff, I will accept Ruth Negga gladly and with all my heart!

If you don't like a NOT WHITE/BLONDE woman being cast as Tulip, too fucking bad. Ruth Negga is a great actress and will be wonderful.

You see, people? We can use Twitter anyway we want! It’s like a pull quote machine, and we can cherry pick to manufacture outrage or we can cherry pick to suggest all of Twitter is supporting this casting decision, which obviously it is, because there’s nothing wrong with it, RIGHT?
