John Oliver Extends Invitation to John Miller, Donald Trump's Publicist

For starters, John Oliver did another excellent segment at how the U.S. is under-funding a service that we’re over-reliant on. If people insist on calling 911 for everything, we should at least have the decency to pay for it properly.

But, as important as our rapidly outpaced infrastructure is, we need to talk about a quick segment Oliver did on Trump.

God knows pointing out that Trump lied about something isn’t exactly news. Nor is pointing out that Trump is arrogant enough to believe that his simple denial is enough to satisfy most people. What is news is that Trump fucked up at one point, and accidentally told the truth. In all seriousness, what is he thinking? Did he forget that he’d come clean about the John Miller “joke”? Has he actually told so many outrageous lies over the years that he can’t keep track of what he’s said about all of them? Does he really just not give a shit?

More disturbing than the pathological lying is the seeming deterioration of Trump’s mental facilities. Or the hopeful deterioration of Trump’s mental facilities. Given that we have clear evidence that Trump created John Miller and is now lying about it, we have two options about what to believe about Trump: either he’s becoming crazier and more arrogant every year, or he’s always been this crazy. Meaning either America is a place where a recklessly arrogant, delusional person is able to attain shocking levels of success if they have enough connections, or we might be voting a man into office who’s becoming more arrogant and delusional by the year. Also meaning that as a people we respond so deeply to people who appear to be leaders that we’ve completely stopped questioning most of the bullshit the person in charge tells us. Even when they’re demonstrably lying.

Yes, we’ll only have to deal with this particular shit show for the next six months. But when it’s over, remember that lying, delusional shitbag will still be a well-respected titan of the business world for the rest of his goddamn life.
