Two bits of Game of Thrones news today, starting with the casting of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, best known for his role as Mr. Eko in Lost, Simon Adebisi on Oz, and as Algrim / Kurse in Thor: The Dark World (he also had a sizable role in the excellent but little seen Cinemax series, Hunted). What his role in the show will be hasn’t been fully revealed. We do know that he will not be playing a character from the book, and that his name is Malko.
We are going off book, people. I repeat: We are going off book.
Here’s a couple of minor spoilers, too.
Game of Thrones will employ a flashback sequence in the fifth season, a first for the series. In fact, the flashback is expected to open the season, and involve Maggy the Frog and young Cersei.
Moreover, according to reports, at least one major scene of the season to come will see Jaime and Bronn traveling to Dorne together to visit Princess Myrcella, which will spark a conflict that sees Jaime dueling with the Sand Snakes (possibly Keisha Castle-Hughes’ Obara Sand).
What does any of that mean? I dunno, but I am guessing that the series is running farther and farther afield from George R.R. Martin’s source material.
