Hey, what’cha doin’ this weekend? Got a nice barbecue lined up? Maybe going to the pool the first day it’s open? Headed out to the beach? What if there was an option that didn’t involve other people’s potato salad, and overcrowded pool full of splashing kids, or sand that will follow you for the next three months. Well there is! This weekend the second annual Con of Thrones is happening in Dallas, and yours truly will be there to take in the events, present a panel, and meet any fans or general well-wishers who may drop by.
While Game of Thrones itself will not be coming back until well into next year, by current estimates, you can feed your fandom in all sorts of ways this weekend. Friday afternoon at 3pm, I’m going to be holding a panel on The Seven where we’ll talk about what may happen with The Seven as we approach the end of both the books and the show. But that’s not all that’s happening! There are so many other panels going on too! Anything you’ve thought about or wondered about with the series is (probably) being covered sometime this weekend. There’s even a panel about the influence of The Grateful Dead on George R. R. Martin! There’s also karaoke, quizzes, costume contests, sword lessons with the actual Syrio, and honestly just a ton more. Some people from the show are gonna be there, our dearly adored Joanna Robinson will be there, and I’ll be there! Friday and most of Saturday. Unfortunately, I’m also mid-move, so I won’t be there through Sunday. But that doesn’t matter, because there’s still so much to do and see!
Let me know if you have any thoughts on The Seven that I should add to my panel, or questions you’d like me to address. Last year I was able to set up a Facebook Live event for my panel and if people are interested I’ll see if I can get one going again this year. And if anyone wants to spearhead a place to meet in Dallas that is somewhere close to the Convention Center, I’m happy to drop in for a Mini-Bacon on Friday.
