The selling point for Abigail, until it’s released in April, is that it’s going to be 2024’s M3GAN — right down to the one-word female name and a dance move in the trailer designed to go viral — but it has much more going for it than that. It comes from directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the guys behind the fantastic Ready or Not and the two most recent Scream films. It also has a killer cast in Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, Angus Cloud (RIP), and Giancarlo Esposito. Barrera, Stevens, and Newton are basically horror-movie royalty at this point.

More than that, though, is the fact that it looks terrifically fun. It’s about a group of would-be criminals who kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure. All they have to do to collect a $50 million ransom is watch the girl overnight. Easy, right? Not when they find out that they kidnapped a ballerina vampire.

Abigail opens on April 19th.
