Last Friday was intended to herald the release of Paramount’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog. However, those plans got derailed last spring, following the debut of the film’s first trailer. Fans were so freaked out by the look of CGI Sonic and his frightfully human teeth that Paramount pulled the trailer, pushed the release date to 2020, and plunged back intoThe postproduction to retool. Now, Sonic is back with a new poster, new trailer, and new look.

Paramount went back to the Sonic look fans know and love, amping up the colors and leaning into the big-eyed, anime vibe of the Japanese video game. Sonic is cute again! Plus, this look feels better paired to the high-energy voice performance of Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, DuckTales), the mad mugging of leading man James Marsden, and the goofy antics of living cartoon Jim Carrey, who co-stars as Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
See them all in action in Sonic The Hedgehog latest trailer:
Because the first trailer is no longer online, it’s hard to remember how the two compare. But Paramount was sure to include a redo of the shot that gave SEGA fans nightmares. Here’s the original version next to its new glow-up:
