There's Nothing Quiet About the 'A Quiet Place' Prequel, 'Day One'

The 2018 monster hit A Quiet Place managed to put John Krasinski on the map as a writer and director after a couple of duds that most probably don’t even remember, Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and The Hollars, which has maybe the best cast for a film no one has heard of. And now look at Krasinski! He’s being played by Randall Park and making family films with Ryan Reynolds! Before that, however, he did make A Quiet Place: Part II, which was pretty good!

While he’s taken the ‘story by’ credits on the prequel, A Quiet Place: Day One, Krasinski has left directing duties to Michael Sarnoski, who directed Nic Cage in the critically beloved Nic Cage film, Pig. There’s not much quiet about the prequel, however, which takes place on the day that the monsters arrived. In fact, without the quiet, there’s not much separating the prequel from a Godzilla film, which is fine, but for the fact that we already have Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire out this year.

It does have a couple of things going for it, though, in Lupita Nyong’o and Djimon Hounsou. It’s unclear, however, if they are enough to separate Day One from every other monster film set in a big city. At least Cloverfield kept the monsters hidden for most of the movie. Day One appears to throw as many at the screen as possible.

A Quiet Place: Day One arrives on the big screen on June 28th.
