Anatomy of a Fall is an excellent film, and its presence in the 2024 Oscars line-up is a true pleasure. Justine Triet’s courtroom drama is up for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Actress, as well as two other awards. After winning the Palme d’Or, Triet and her cast, including the phenomenal Sandra Huller, have been regular presences in Hollywood, rubbing elbows with Academy voters and letting everyone know how good they are. You know what also helps your FYC campaign in a crowded year? A cute doggo.

Meet Messi, the good boy doggo and award-winning thespian from Anatomy of a Fall. Messi plays Snoop, the dog of Daniel (Milo Machado Graner), the son of Sandra and Samuel, who is caught amid the drama of his mother being tried for the murder of his father. Snoop is his guide dog because Daniel is partially sighted after a childhood accident, and their bond is a crucial part of the film. The pair of them might be the only true witnesses to what happened to Samuel.

Look, we love a good dog. Who doesn’t? And frankly, it’s always a delight to see a dog hanging out with major celebrities who are totally unable to act cool when they see a floofy boy in their presence. Messi was present at the Academy luncheon, which is the big party they host before the ceremony that allows all the nominees to hang out and let loose without the terror of a live recording.

And Messi mingled with the big shots. He got hugs from America Ferrera, made Ryan Gosling giddy, and declared Bradley Cooper important enough to be in his presence. We love a benevolent canine king.

Messi is a dedicated campaigner for his film and we hope his tireless efforts will not be in vain come Oscars night. Give him a belly scratch and a treat. He deserves it.
