Omar Sy, the dashing titular thief of Netflix’s Lupin, is back! The Takedown is a French action-comedy co-starring Sy and Laurent Lafitte as a pair of odd-couple cops whose simple drug case escalates into something much larger.
Pros: More Omar Sy! I only now realized I forgot to watch part 2 of Lupin, but Sy’s charisma as France’s most famous thief was undeniable and I’m glad he continues to grace our televisions. And The Takedown looks like a lot of fun, between the bumper cars and white supremacists getting arrested. It’s also directed by Louis Leterrier, who brought us the first two Transporter movies, Jet Li’s Unleashed, and Netflix’s own The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Con: That dubbing. Yikes. Lafitte’s seems alright but Sy’s isn’t even close. Thank Cthulhu for subtitles.
The Takedown hits Netflix on May 6. Plenty of time for those of us who flaked on Lupin to catch up.
