PREPARE. FOR YOUR BASEMENT. TO BE FLOODED!
After eons of waiting (yes, a year, whatever), David Lowery’s Dev Patel-starring The Green Knight — originally slated for a May 2020 release — now has a nifty July 30 in-theater date, and a new second trailer. Behold!
Excuse me BUT I NEED A MOMENT.
… OK. I HAD MY MOMENT. LET’S REMIND OURSELVES OF HOW AMAZING THIS MOVIE SEEMS TO BE. With an absolutely stacked cast of Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris (that VOICE), Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Ralph Ineson, The Green Knight is an updated spin on the story of, according to A24, “Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.”
This second trailer certainly lays out more plot, if you’re into that kind of thing, whereas the first trailer from last year was more about building an overall vibe. As a reminder, here’s that teaser:
And here’s a gif of Patel being very hot. YOU’RE WELCOME. I’m sorry I do not yet have a gif of Patel jumping hotly over the Round Table, I WILL WORK ON IT.
Need to pass the time until July 30? I recommend watching Patel in The Wedding Guest or The Personal History of David Copperfield, or Lowery’s live-action Pete’s Dragon or The Old Man and the Gun. Or, just watch these trailers over and over again for the next two months. Whatever! No judgments here!
The Green Knight hits theaters on July 30, 2021.
