When Bird Box came out, a lot of folks claimed it was a rip off of A Quiet Place, even though the book upon which Bird Box was based came out five years prior. The point, in both movies, however, is that if you open your eyes (Bird Box) or speak too loudly (A Quiet Place), you will be attacked by an unknown evil force.
In Never Let Go, which stars Halle Berry and comes from Alexandre Aja (Crawl, Piranha 3D), you can’t become detached from your house. As in, you can leave your house, but only if you are attached to a rope that’s connected to the house. If you let go of the rope or if it becomes detached from the home, you will be attacked by a malevolent force.
The twist — I assume — is that there are some The Village-like shenanigans going on, as in maybe Mom is making up the evil to keep her kids close. One of the kids questions the evil, and we’ll have to watch to find out if it’s real or not.
Never Let Go arrives this fall.
