We’ve known about the Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead remake for several years now. We are big fans of the original. The remake opens wide in 12 days, even though the trailer has only just arrived a few days ago (never a great sign).
The remake centers on a Black family, the oldest sister of whom is played by Simone Joy Jones, who is one of the few reasons to watch the Fresh Prince of Bel Air reboot. Nicole Richie is playing the boss of the fashion company that the oldest sister ends up working for after the babysitter dies — recall that the movie is about a terrible mother who, for some reason, leaves her kids alone with an elderly babysitter all summer (June Squibb plays the babysitter).
I’ll just leave this for everyone to watch, noting only that I appreciate that the original film’s iconic line was made here, even if I do not appreciate that it’s made from the ground instead of on the roof of the house.
The film is scheduled to be released on April 12, 2024.
