Pajiba 10 Gap-Filler: ScarJo Hands Off the Baton, Brad Pitt's 'Wick,' and Furiosa Is ... Bummed

Look: Normally, the Monday after the 4th of July is when we close the voting on the Pajiba 10. We haven’t even begun the Pajiba 10 proceedings yet because it doesn’t feel … right. Maybe it’ll feel right in a few weeks, or next month, or in the fall. I don’t know, but potentially awarding John David Washington and Elizabeth Debicki top honors (obviously, who else was it gonna be?) on a day when we potentially hit 100,000 new infections doesn’t feel appropriate.

In the meantime, we can still appropriately thirst (with proper social distancing) about trade news, can’t we? Take, for instance, Scarlett Johansson.

OK, no: Not really my thing, either. However, I adore Florence Pugh.

Here she is with two other potential Pajiba 10ers, former member Emma Thompson and Hot Priest, Andrew Scott. I mention ScarJo and Pugh only because, according to the film’s director, Cate Shortland, Johansson will officially be handing the baton over to Florence Pugh in Black Widow, whenever it finally comes to theaters (it is tentatively set for November 6th). She is a very good choice to replace Johansson. It’s also nice to think about seeing Marvel movies again someday.

Meanwhile, I don’t think that Brad Pitt has actually ever hit the Pajiba 10 — a little too conventionally attractive for these parts — but when he’s not being a problematic Dad/husband, he makes some fine movies. Also, he’s a very handsome feller.

Also, it’s so weird that we haven’t seen a new red-carpet photo from a celebrity in months. Anyway, looks like Brad Pitt is getting into bed (not literally, that’d be weird!) with David Leitch, the uncredited director of John Wick, as well as the credited director of Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2. They will be making Bullet Train, adapted by Zak Olkewicz from the novel Maria Beetle by Kotaro Isaka. It’s very Wick-ian: It’s “about five assassins who find themselves on a fast-moving bullet train from Tokyo to Morioka with only a few stops in between. They discover their missions are not unrelated to one another. The question becomes, who will make it off the train alive and what awaits them at the terminal station?”

Fun fact: David Leitch used to be Brad Pitt’s stunt double (and Jean-Claude Van Damme before him), which is why Pitt and Leitch literally getting into bed together would be weird. Also, Leitch could totally pass for poor man’s Pitt:

Finally, in an interview for this weekend’s Old Guard, Charlize Theron expressed her disappointment that she won’t be able to continue the journey of George Miller’s Mad Max franchise because the director will next be doing a prequel.

“It’s a tough one to swallow. Listen, I fully respect George, if not more so in the aftermath of making that film with him. He’s a master, and I wish him nothing but the best, ” Theron admits. “Yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner. We get so hung up on the smaller details that we forget the thing that we emotionally tap into has nothing to do with that minute thing that we’re focusing on.”

It hurts to lose Charlize, no doubt.

However, Anya Taylor-Joy and another potential Pajiba 10’er, Jodie Comer, are up for the role in the prequel. It’s hard to complain too much about that. I hope you all had a great 4th of July holiday. Enjoy your bunks.
