Did you ever get so excited at a movie trailer that you forgot it’s not the first time you’ve seen the film promoted? Because I just did. Despite Jen bringing us the first trailer in December, I watched this whole thing grinning ear to ear as though all the footage is brand new. And why not? Nic Cage as Nic Cage, desperate to pay off all those islands, castles, and the 1935 Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe he drove in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. So desperate that he’ll accept $1 million to attend the birthday bash of billionaire Javi Gutierrez (Pedro Pascal), only to get roped into a CIA operation because new BFF Javi is a notorious drug kingpin.

Also starring Tiffany Haddish and Ike Barinholtz — who clearly let toxic masculine peer pressure keep him from watching The Croods — as the CIA agents in charge of this sting and Neil Patrick Harris as Cage’s agent, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent looks like a return to the fun action-adventure films with which Cage was once synonymous. Not that his creepy horror movies aren’t fantastic. I can watch Willy’s Wonderland until my eyes bleed. But I’ve missed the popcorn flicks, the National Treasures and Con Airs. Nic Cage taking the opportunity to laugh at his own eccentricities is exactly what the doctor ordered.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is in theaters April 22.
