The Oscar nominations are in and they are terrible. Oscars so white. Directors so male. Cats so ignored! It might make you pine for an award ceremony that strives for greatness and not the staid Oscar bait standards. And so, we welcome you to the first (annual) Elsie Awards.
Named for 16-year-old actress Elsie Fisher, the Elsie Awards were founded last night on Twitter. The critically acclaimed star of Eighth Grade celebrated her favorite films of the year, raining praise on Hustlers, Honey Boy, The Last Black Man In San Francisco, and The Farewell. She also added some new categories, all the better to celebrate the full scope of cinema.
I’ve decided to start my own film awards because sometimes other ones suck, so here are the nominations for the first annual Elsie Awards
