Captain Marvel was the first movie where I noticed that CG can’t de-age bones. Yes, it can make Sam Jackson’s face look younger, but he still moved like a man in his 60s (as he should). Older people are supposed to move like older people, something the new Indiana Jones movie got right (I thought). Sure, the characters I just mentioned are fictional and dealing with unreal circumstances. They’re still old(er). That became painfully obvious to Eddie Murphy while filming Beverly Hills Cop 4.
Murphy is dusting off his Detroit Lions jacket for the first Beverly Hills Cop sequel in almost 30 years. The franchise was built on a splendid mix of action and comedy. Yes, Murphy isn’t his spry self anymore, but the movie required a decent amount of running and gunning. Eddie, being the superstar that he is, delivered, even though it was a “rough one,” according to the SNL alum.
In a recent chat with People Magazine, Murphy said, “It was a hard one. I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore.” Still, Murphy said that they “got through it.” The new Axel Foley adventure went through a lot of iterations before it got in front of cameras. It makes sense that Murphy would want to uphold a certain standard if he was going to return to the franchise.
This is a movie that I am unshakeably excited about. I loved the original three movies, and because I was six or seven when I saw them, I loved the third one the most. I know it’s not very good, but that just shows that I’ll be willing to accept a lot about this new movie. I’m cautiously optimistic. That being said, if it’s better than Coming 2 America, I’ll be happy.
