We hope you had a wonderful Halloween weekend full of chocolate and needlessly niche costume choices. Forr those seeking the ultimate horror experience at the cinema, there weren’t any new scary releases to satisfy, so audiences chose the most terrifying option available: Nathan Fielder.
You Can See Everything is the number one movie in America. Think about it. Who could have ever predicted that? It eked out a victory over DC’s Clayface with a $10.6 million intake. Its overall domestic gross is now over $63.8 million. For context, Street Fighter has only earned $53 million in the space of three weeks. Brad Pitt’s sad doggo movie Heart of the Beast has only grossed $65 million in six weeks. This is an astonishing feat for any documentary, let alone one this tricksy and tough to market.
K-pop continues to be a powerhouse. At number six is BTS World Tour ‘Arirang’ in São Paulo: Live Viewing, with $2.8 million. Is this Halloween themed? Did the boys all dress up for the occasion?
John Turturro’s The Only Living Pickpocket in New York expanded its run to over 1,100 locations and received a 1,284% increase in gross from its previous week. True story: I once embroidered a handkerchief for a friend that said, “Spike Lee’s number 1 white fan. With apologies to John Turturro.” I’m an artist.
For anyone seeking real life terror on a grander scale this Halloween, the documentary Everest: The Other Side followed an absolute lunatic who skis down the world’s tallest mountain. Has he tried knitting or yoga? That one earned $1 million.
Sight & Sound Presents: JOSHUA Live! is a pro-shot of a Christian play about Joshua, and it earned $757,600. Faith-based mega-church entertainment in the cinema? I see the vision. And the grosses.
The newest Liam Neeson face-punch action-shlock movie of the month, The Mongoose, took in $480,000 from 1,014 locations, presumably because its target audience is waiting for it to be on Netflix. Behind that is The Mosquito Bowl, an actual Netflix film, with $455,000 from 349 cinemas.
Breeder, a horror film about, well, you know, took in $293,000 from 777 places (not 666? Commit to the bit, people!) The drama Queen at Sea, starring Juliette Binoche and Tom Courtenay, made $10,000 from one venue.
This coming week sees the release of The Cat in the Hat, Wild Horse Nine, Godzilla Minus Zero, and Jimmy.
