Audiences were treated to a few new releases this week, but in the end, nostalgia won and prior titles kept their place in the top five. The Devil Wears Prada 2 kept the number one spot with $34 million in its second week. That brings its domestic total to $144.8 million after only two weeks. Worldwide, it’s earned an impressive $433.8 million. That’s enough to make it the fifth highest-grossing movie of 2026 so far. One spot ahead of that? Michael.
To the surprise of nobody, Michael is doing gangbusters at the box office. The ‘biopic’ that conveniently pretends most of history didn’t happen has done what it set out to do: rewrite the past and pander to the fans who just want to hear the hits. They’re coming back again and again for it, if the $240.4 million domestic gross is anything to go by.
For those who preferred something a little more punchy, there was Mortal Kombat II. Cue the theme music! The sequel debuted at number two with $40 million. It seems audiences were more drawn to what they knew than what they didn’t. Isn’t that so often the case? But spare a thought for The Sheep Detectives, a 100% real movie that has earned a surprising amount of good reviews. Sometimes, you just want some sheep to solve a crime. Well, some people did. It debuted at number four with $15.9 million.
Billie Eilish launched the movie of her recent world tour, “Hit Me Hard and Soft”. She landed James f*cking Cameron as the director! And it’s in 3D! Apparently he’s a huge fan of hers and they also bonded over being vegans. Reviews were excellent and it grossed $7.5 million from 2,613 places.
In limited release news: Silent Friend, a historical drama starring the one and only Tony Leung, earned $74,440 from two places; the controversial drama Blue Film took in $31,000 from two locations; and The Python Hunt, a documentary about the annual competition in Florida where hunters are invited to tackle invasive snake infestations, scared up $13,827 from one cinema.
This coming week sees the release of the political drama The Wizard of the Kremlin, the horror movie Is God Is, and a new Guy Ritchie movie, In the Grey.
