I loved Bill & Ted: Face The Music. I grew up watching the first two movies. My excitement knew no bounds when a third one was announced. When it was finally released in late August of 2020 (after being moved around several times due to the pandemic), I sat happily on my couch and rented it. I had just learned, mere weeks before, that I would be a new dad. So, the idea of it being a film about passing on your legacy to your children wrecked me up and down. I thought it was a perfect ending (which gave us an excellent new Weezer song), but that may not be true.

Alex Winter, one-half of the dynamic duo dutifully described as Bill & Ted, dropped a pretty big reveal in a recent interview. While appearing on the Sarah O’Connell show, Winter was asked about the finality of Face The Music. It turns out that a fourth film is currently in the works. Winter went as far as to say that the writers (Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon) have pitched an idea, everyone likes it (presumably Keanu, too), and the writers will write it! That’s not a done deal, but it’s close(ish).

Surprisingly enough, I don’t feel the same level of excitement this time around. They wrapped up the story of these time-traveling slackers so wonderfully. We were introduced to their kids (played wonderfully by Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine), and I could see the movie deciding to focus on them, but I’d almost prefer they get their own film to lead. They could be front and center in a sequel, but they deserve an adventure that wouldn’t revolve around their dads.

Winter was mum on the details. He also described the idea as “obvious.” When push comes to shove, I’d likely be on board for a new entry into the San Dimasverse (TM). They could have something up their sleeve that revitalizes the franchise or maybe wrap things up for good. I don’t know what could be more definitive than our two leads spending their last moments together in a nursing home, but the crew has yet to steer me wrong.
