Water turns to ice when it gets really cold (that’s the scientific phrasing). Should a flame make contact with a piece of paper, the paper will burn to ash. If James Cameron releases another Avatar movie, people will go see it. Some things are absolutes. They are a force of nature that just is. Another absolute is that if you take a cool, Black actor, put him in a leather duster, and have him kill vampires, you’ve got a surefire path to success. Kevin Feige doesn’t seem to understand that.

A new Blade film, starring Mahershala Ali, has been in the works since 2019. Despite being in the MCU, it seemed like a perfect pairing. Ali is a fantastic actor and cool as hell. The rest should be like putting a pillow in a pillowcase. Instead, it’s been more akin to folding a fitted sheet. Brian recently wrote a great breakdown of Blade’s recent production troubles here. In short, the film lost its second director and is now on its fifth or sixth writer. It’s a mess.

It shouldn’t be a mess. The formula is proven. Yes, the third Blade film is OK at best, and the less said about the Sticky Fingaz-led television show on Spike TV, the better. Still, it shouldn’t be this hard to do this concept on the big screen. If I had to guess, it’s the MCUness of it all that is getting in the way. Blade needs an R-rating, and Feige is only just getting used to those. We can speculate all we want as to the “why,” but for now, the original Blade is just standing back and shaking his head.

Wesley Snipes took to Twitter to reflect on everything happening. The actor has been rumored to be involved in the reboot, Deadpool 3, and even made a cameo as Blade in What We Do In The Shadows. He is connected to the role and will be for the foreseeable future. His performance and the presentation of the role are iconic. If anyone has a right to comment on the Daywalker’s current predicament, it’s the Daywalker himself.

That’s some good shade. It also makes it seem to me like Snipes was not going to be involved in this project. Gravedancing isn’t something you do if you’re the one in the grave. Instead, it feels like he’s watching a new house burn down from the safety of his older, more secure house. Good for him.
