The protracted custody dispute between Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde continues to work its way through the court system and make headlines. The latest? Olivia Wilde is asking for child support from Sudeikis because he has the “superior” income.
Wilde asserts that, although the two split private school tuition for the kids, she has to cover all the expenses of raising their children when she is in charge of them. Sudeikis, likewise, covers expenses while he is with the kids. The issue, however, is that Sudeikis makes more money than Wilde, so she believes that Sudeikis should have to provide child support so that their two children can afford to live the same lifestyle with her as they do with him.
She wants $500,000 and back child support. From a legal and technical standpoint, I do not begrudge Wilde for asking. If their kids get two nannies with Sudeikis instead of one when they’re with Wilde, then by damn, they should have two with Wilde, too. Wilde should be able to afford to give the kids a bedroom in her house as nice as the one in Sudeikis’ house. She should be able to afford sprinkles for their ice cream cones just like Sudeikis.
This is less about that and more about, “Holy shit, rich people are rich!” According to filings, Wilde makes $71,000 a month, but she spends $107,000 a month on her mortgage, laundry, and cleaning, and more. If Sudeikis also spends $107,000 a month, I suppose Wilde deserves to be able to do so as well. But also, how do you spend $107,000 a month on a mortgage, laundry, and cleaning? Why is laundry and cleaning even mentioned alongside a mortgage? Is it like $100,000 a month for the mortgage and $7,000 for the laundry and cleaning? Does her laundromat only accept gold coins? Just how clean does her home need to be?
On the other hand, if Sudeikis really does have a far “superior” income (Wilde is reportedly worth $10 million, according to her own filings), why does she even have to ask for child support? Be a man, Sudeikis! Pay up! Also, why does the court case seem so acrimonious while Sudeikis and Wilde are hugging it out in public?
