“I have informed them they’re not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [social media],” Kelly Clarkson told People of the two children she shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock: River Rose, 9, and Remington Alexander, 7.
“That can be really hard on kids in general but especially kids with parents in the public eye,” she explained, then added this sick burn for her ex: “My daughter was like, ‘Well, what if Dad lets me?’ I’m like, ‘Well, you’re there four days a month. Enjoy that.’ And right now, he’s not letting them do it either.”
That’s a relief, because she admitted that co-parenting has “so much emotion and trauma involved.” She and Blackstock first split in 2020 and then finalized their divorce in 2022, but the mess keeps messing. You only need to listen to her recent music to know how much of a jerk this guy is.
“It’s hard enough when you’re married and come from two different backgrounds and ways to discipline and educate. Doing that in different households can be tough,” she explained.
She says she can be hard on herself as a mother, but her kids are “100%” her kids.
“They are identical to me…they’re both highly artistic…they’re just kind of, the best kind of odd and weird, and I’m weird too!”
But she insists she’s not a “helicopter mom.”
“I like that they’re independent, but I’m adamant about my schedule, making sure I’m there as much as I can be,” she explained. “There’s no perfect parent; I’m definitely screwing up my children somehow! But I’m doing my best.”
