Another day, another celebrity admitting to using a weight loss drug…
Yesterday, Whoopi Goldberg went on Kelly Clarkson’s talk show. Right off the bat, the pair dove into their respective weight losses. A couple of months ago, Whoopi revealed she’d lost a significant amount of weight with the help of the medication Mounjaro. Kelly has also lost weight (reportedly 60 pounds), unsurprisingly triggering Ozempic speculation. Welcome to 2024! But, back in January, Kelly attributed the change to listening to her doctor, a healthier diet, and lots of New York City walking.
During their conversation, Whoopi told Kelly she was “doing that wonderful shot that works for folks who need some help.” Kelly responded, “Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that too, cuz my bloodwork got so bad.” After admitting she hadn’t planned on talking about it, Kelly dove right in, via PEOPLE:
“My doctor chased me for two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems. Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic, but it’s not. It’s something else.”Clarkson explained how the medication is “something that aids in helping break down the sugar,” noting how her body “doesn’t do it right.”
Kelly has previously said being pre-diabetic inspired her to lose weight.
Whoopi told Kelly that, at her heaviest, she was 300 pounds. Kelly responded:
“My heaviest, I was 203 and I’m 5’3” and a half… It’s funny because people assume, ‘Oh, she must have been miserable and depressed or whatever,’ and I was like, ‘No, I was not.’”
Kelly said that, before her weight loss, she wasn’t insecure about her body. She was happy! But, now, she looks back at old footage of herself and thinks, “She is, any second now, going to die.” Hoo boy! Listen, I love Kelly, and I get that we’re all our own worst critics (especially when it comes to body image), but, for everyone watching that interview who weighs more than 203 pounds (not even that big, by the way)… that is not a great thing to hear. Be careful with your words, celebrities who lose weight!
