Jonathan Majors, the actor found guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari, was sentenced today in Manhattan Criminal Court. The judge delivered a verdict of 52 weeks of domestic violence programming — he will not go to jail, although he had faced a potential year-long term. His conviction last December of assault and harassment derailed Majors’ career, with Marvel Studios severing ties with and movies like Magazine Dreams put on a shelf.
The trial detailed the tumultuous relationship between Majors and Jabbari, who testified to Majors’ controlling and abusive behavior — Majors portrayed himself as a victim, recordings revealed his delusions of grandeur, and he compared himself to Martin Luther King, Jr. and Barack Obama. Despite denials from Majors and a countersuit against Jabbari, a jury nevertheless found him guilty.
Majors’ once-promising career is now in serious doubt. With the sentencing, Majors won’t be able to leverage a not-guilty verdict to salvage his reputation. Jabbari and others who have detailed abuse allegations against Majors will likely be disappointed in the light sentence.
Majors arrived at his sentencing with his girlfriend, Meagan Good.
