Update: Marvel has finally dropped Jonathan Majors after the guilty verdict against him.

——-

After a two-week trial, forced by Jonathan Majors in the hopes that a not-guilty verdict might save his professional career, a six-person jury has found the actor guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment. The verdict stems from an incident in March in which Majors was accused of several charges of harassment and aggravated violence after he called the police after finding his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari, unconscious in their apartment.

The verdict caps what began as a promising year for the actor, whose Magazine Dreams, came out of Sundance as one of the hottest movies of the festival. However, the assault and harassment of Jabarri uncovered a pattern of extreme abuse that would derail the actor’s career. During the trial, text messages and voice recordings showed that he had tried to prevent Jabarri from going to the hospital to attend to injuries he had caused to her and that Majors had delusions of grandeur. In one recording, he compared himself to Martin Luther King, Jr., and Barack Obama, insisting to Jabarri that she live up to the standards of Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama.

“I’m a great man. A great man,” said Majors in one recording. “There needs to be a great woman who makes sacrifices.”

Over the course of the year, Majors has been dropped by his management and several brands. Disney also pulled Magazine Dreams off its schedule. Majors has not yet been officially dropped by Marvel, which had cast him as the next big bad in the MCU.

The best news of all is that Majors will not be able to point to a not-guilty verdict in an attempt to redeem his character.
