For a little more than two decades, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon were Hollywood’s favorite unmarried couple, the relationship that seemed to work almost because they weren’t married. Unfortunately, in 2009, not even the lack of marital bond could keep them together.
Likewise, this weekend Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt — who have been in a relationship for just under two decades — also announced their split.
Unmarried love is dead.
“With great sadness, we have decided to separate, after 18 years of love and shared history,” the couple released in a statement. “We will continue to be supportive of each other in every way possible moving forward.”
There’s plenty of rumors circulating as to the reason why the two split, but as with any relationship that lasts nearly 20 years, let us simply acknowledge what a wonderful little miracle their relationship was for all that time. The two switched spots on the celebrity totem pole, survived through their lean years, their career peaks, and their struggles with addiction. Jon Hamm was 26 when the two began dating. He’s 44 now. That’s an exceptional run.
Plus, we’ll always have Kissing Jessica Stein.
