Kevin Brennan is a comedian and a former Saturday Night Live writer. If you’ve never heard of him, you’re not alone. He wrote for “Weekend Update” for two years during the tenure of the worst “Update” anchor in SNL history, Colin Quinn. He left the show after being passed over as Quinn’s successor when Lorne Michaels chose Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon to host instead.
Kevin Brennan, in fact, is best known as the brother of the more famous comedian Neal Brennan (co-creator of The Chappelle Show), for losing to a 19-year-old Dave Chappelle on Star Search, and for making multiple appearances on Last Call with Carson Daly. Yes, Kevin Brennan is best known for his appearances on a show that few people watched and even fewer people remember. Under Personal Life on his Wikipedia page, it literally reads, “He dated comedian Sarah Silverman in 1988.” The best highlight in his entire personal life is literally that he briefly dated a much more famous comedian 35 years ago.
And the reason I’m ragging on Kevin Brennan is not just because he’s an obscure nobody, a fifth-rate Andrew Dice Clay, is because — instead of reading the room after Matthew Perry died on Saturday night — Brennan decided to mock the manner in which he died and take a shot at the Friends star. A real class act.
“DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA,” he tweeted on Saturday night. When even the people who remain in the cesspool that is Twitter called him out for mocking Perry’s death, Brennan doubled down. “I didn’t mock it. I just thought it was funny. But I do love it when junkies die.”
As Chandler Bing might say, “Could you be any more pathetic?” This is low even for an insult comic.
For the record, the “junkie” helped his old best friend Hank Azaria get sober and spent the last few years of his life trying to help others get clean.
