While you may have celebrated this year’s Rex Manning Day by posting a few links or quotes on Facebook, Ethan Embry and Rough Trade record shop in Brooklyn along with BBQ Films had a huge party. There’s a full rundown of the events over at Vanity Fair. The festivities included:
- A Rex Manning photo booth done up to look like the “Say No More, Mon Amour” video complete with Rex Manning lookalike.
- A head shaving station.
- A cover band playing “90s hits by Better than Ezra and the Gin Blossoms.”
- Live appearance by Gwar on stage during the Gwar scene in Empire Records.
It sounds like it was a blast for everyone who wanted to relive a 20 year old movie to the best of their abilities in Brooklyn. But Embry himself sounds like a great person, and talks about the movie, but also the ups and downs in his career in the years since. His next big project is Netflix’s Grace and Frankie with Lily Tomlin and Sam Waterston. Also, looking at pictures of him now, and pictures of him in Empire make it seem like he made that film when he was 10. It’s startling.
