Last night, Patton Oswalt and Carrie Coon went on Watch What Happens Live! to plug the new Ghostbusters movie. During the aftershow, two viewers video-called in with a question for Patton: “How did you become pals with the late, great Anthony Bourdain, and what is the best foodie or travel advice he ever gave you?” Oo, good question. I, too, am curious.

The 55-year-old comedian explained that he and Anthony initially connected because Patton voiced Remy the culinary rat in Ratatouille (2007):

“I became friends with him because he was a huge fan of Ratouille. Because he was like, ‘They got kitchens and chefs right. It’s very, very accurate.’”

Makes sense. Ratatouille is about an extremely passionate artist who will do anything to achieve excellence in his craft. He just so happens to be a cute lil’ rat. Now, I’m no expert, but based on the obsessive types on shows like The Bear and Top Chef, it does indeed sound like Ratatouille got chefs right.

As for Anthony’s travel/food advice? Patton (respectfully) gives it mixed reviews:

“Listen, I’m not putting Anthony down, but when my wife and I honeymooned in Paris, and I still have the email, I said, ‘Hey, where should we go?’ And he sent back this amazing paragraph that, like, a beat poet would write, going: ‘Don’t do, just walk in everywhere, you gotta wander around and let it happen!’

And we found out very quickly … that works great if you’re Anthony Bourdain. But if you’re me, you need to call ahead and make reservations. You’re not getting in anywhere! So. But he meant well! Very passionate, from the heart.”

I guess that’s why Anthony’s show was called No Reservations. He didn’t need ‘em. Here’s the clip from WWHL!, the Anthony stuff is around the 1:28 mark:

Man, now I have no choice but to rewatch Ratatouille this weekend. Woohoo!
