Kristen Bell is a Very Sweet Nutcase

Kristen Bell was on “Ellen” talking about a present that her husband/boyfriend person, Dax Shepard got for her: A sloth. As many of you know, Kristen Bell is kind of a freak show when it comes to animals. In a very sweet, very loving way. As in, she really likes animals, and they really make her happy. Also, Bell is apparently an exceedingly emotional person, so upon seeing this Sloth, she went into a fetal ball of happiness. And because Shepard is kind of awesome, he taped it, which is in the clip below for your viewing pleasure (if you want to skip the back story and get right to the atomic weeping, it’s at 2:00).

It’s very sweet, but can you imagine living with Kristen Bell? Dealing with that kind of emotional sensitivity all day, every day? Being in constant fear of what might set her off? The woman cannot deal with her sh*t. In a very sweet way, of course.

She is crazy. Adorable, but crazy. However, my favorite thing about this is watching Ellen try to politely laugh her ass off at her. I

Keeping forgetting I can't make the heart symbol on here. That last line should have been I heart Ellen.

Posted by: KatSings at January 31, 2012 10:39 AM

She is insane and I love her all the more for it.

Posted by: Robert at January 31, 2012 10:46 AM

I found this hilarious and adorable, but had it been Zooey Deschanel, I would be baying for her liver right now. Such is the power of Veronica Mars.

Posted by: Craig at January 31, 2012 10:50 AM

Um, I don't have to imagine it, because that's me. I cry ALL THE TIME. When I'm really happy, I cry. When I'm really mad, I cry. I have cried at work. At several different jobs. It's... it's pretty bad.

It's too bad that I'm not as adorable as KBell when she does it.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at January 31, 2012 10:53 AM

I almost cried watching this so I'm not sure what that says about me. My favorite part is, "he's coming to the party?" I love you, VMars!

Posted by: baxlala at January 31, 2012 10:57 AM

I love how Dax is totally used to it and he just is amused and like "Do you want to help set up its habitat?" as if his girlfriend isn't going nuts. Love it.

I'm a crier, too, so I appreciate this AND it's cool she can laugh at it on national TV.

Come for the weeping Bell.

Stay for the clingy tanktop Bell.

Nice.

And that really sweet moment when he kisses her off-camera to calm her down? DAMMIT! That made me like Dax a little.

Posted by: feramones at January 31, 2012 11:12 AM

Wow. I'll bet when she saw Let's Go To Prison she was fetal for a damn month.

Posted by: Mrcreosote at January 31, 2012 11:24 AM

Just the simple fact that this occurred is awesome, but the fact that she allowed this video to be shown on national TV... love her SO MUCH.

And Dax seems like a total sweetheart.

Posted by: Mel C. at January 31, 2012 11:25 AM

Exactly right Craig. Had this been just about anyone else, I would've found it annoying. But since it's Veronica Mars, I found it amazingly adorable. I'm not a crier but I wanted to be one when she was all, "He's coming to the party?!"

And yeah, Dax seems like a sweetheart...and incredibly used to this kind of behavior.

Posted by: lillie at January 31, 2012 11:28 AM

I love that she started crying BEFORE she even saw the sloth. She cried in anticipation of it.

Being able to tap into your crazy emotions is an awesome bonus for an actor. When I turned into a cold dead husk of a rational woman it really hampered my career.

Posted by: Sara Tonin at January 31, 2012 11:32 AM

That's ... special. And maybe adorable. I can't decide. Mostly I just want the shirt she's wearing on the show. Kristen, not Ellen.

Posted by: Samantha at January 31, 2012 12:15 PM

Oh how I feel for her. I tear up for the silliest things (but am stone cold for others) and feel so embarrassed by it. I can't imagine crying so easily!!
That was cute/hilarious but I wonder: where did he get the sloth? They're not pets and many species are endangered. Also they are very shy, terrible idea to take it to the party.

I've loved Kristen Bell since Veronica Mars - she was so smart, strong, heartbreaking and funny, all rolled into one. I had no idea she is such a nutcase in real life, but I think that makes me like her even more, if that were possible. And, I love that she's willing to laugh at herself on national television. I've never understood why she was with Dax Shepherd. This makes it all clear.

Posted by: katie71483 at January 31, 2012 12:21 PM

Kristen Bell IS adorable, it's true.

Posted by: MM at January 31, 2012 12:21 PM

Well she's schizophrenic, that's bound to make a person sensitive.

Posted by: Lucas at January 31, 2012 12:37 PM

Or wait was that just an internet rumor? I could swear I saw an interview with her where she talked about it, but I can't find it now.

Posted by: Lucas at January 31, 2012 12:38 PM

That is absolutely the cutest thing I've ever seen. "It's coming to the party???"

Posted by: Julie at January 31, 2012 12:39 PM

Three posts, yay! Turns out I learned that from Pajiba and now there's a correction in the article.

Posted by: Lucas at January 31, 2012 12:39 PM

I love her even more now.

Posted by: Candee at January 31, 2012 12:47 PM

It’s very sweet, but can you imagine living with Kristen Bell? Dealing with that kind of emotional sensitivity all day, every day?

So, does this make Forgetting Sarah Marshall typecasting or method acting?

Posted by: BierceAmbrose at January 31, 2012 12:57 PM

I think we can safely assume that Kristen Bell cries uncontrollably during sex. Her eyes just get so wet.

Posted by: Mez at January 31, 2012 1:46 PM

I love it when Ellen punks her at the 3:00-ish part.

Posted by: motormouth at January 31, 2012 2:44 PM

Holy cow. Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

Yeah, she's sweet and cute and all that, but has she been warned by a medical professional to never have an orgasm? 'Cause I'm pretty sure that would kill her.

Posted by: NateS1973 at January 31, 2012 3:22 PM

@marigi I assume it was one of those things where they book animals for like school assemblies or other events and there's a handler there explaining about them.

Posted by: KStellar at January 31, 2012 3:24 PM

So far 2012 is has the potential to be the worst year. My celebrity crushes on Zooey, and now Kristen, have been ruined forever! Maybe I'm just getting more curmudgeonly?

Posted by: J-Bobber at January 31, 2012 4:08 PM

I've never seen Veronica Mars so I am annoyed as all hell right now.

Posted by: klingonfree at January 31, 2012 4:10 PM

But I'm kind of loving Ellen for messing with her.

Posted by: klingonfree at January 31, 2012 4:14 PM

My oh my oh my. Loved VM, but that really goes to show how good an actor she is, because clearly, she is a total emotional nutjob. I have tears in my eyes now too. Of laughter, surprise and bitter disappointment.

Posted by: T-Bone at January 31, 2012 4:25 PM

@KStellar: I thought he actually GAVE her a sloth for her b-day. That she has it in the house and all. But now it makes more sense. Thanks!

Posted by: marigi at January 31, 2012 5:08 PM

Yeah, one day she's not gonna be cute anymore and crazy gets old.

Posted by: Protoguy at January 31, 2012 5:12 PM

motormouth,

Yes, that was awesome, but not Chuck Norris awesome or Aimee Teegarden sitting on my face awesome.

That said, I think it is a little disturbing that Belle gets that emotionally crazy that easily.

Posted by: Snackpit at January 31, 2012 8:34 PM

I've always wanted her to be my secret famous BFF and now I want it even more!

Posted by: Austin at January 31, 2012 8:40 PM

I can't blame her. Sloths (particularly baby sloths) are rather high on the cuteness scale. Of course, red pandas rate close to 750 millichans, and are capable of giving people diabetes with their almost lethal level of cuteness.

Posted by: The Wanderer at January 31, 2012 10:11 PM

Sloths are ridiculously adorable. On a ride down the Amazon my fam and I got to hold some sloths (tourist trappy, don't care). SO EFFING CUTE. I don't trust anyone who wouldn't cry tears of happiness to have a man person who arranges a sloth for their birthday party. Myself I am crying tears of jealousy right now.

Posted by: kucheza at January 31, 2012 10:32 PM

I never watched VM, but I started liking Bell from her many appearances flirting with Craig Ferguson.

Posted by: Confucius Jackson at February 1, 2012 12:20 AM

Bat-shit crazy hot. Her career arc is reminding a bit of Heather Locklear.

Posted by: James S at February 1, 2012 3:33 AM

Live, in person, for a duration of over 30 minutes I might have to throttle her (regardless of my undying VM love). Then again, it's refreshing to see a woman explain and display her neuroses so unabashedly.

Posted by: cinekat at February 1, 2012 8:26 AM

This looks like an outtake from "Funny Games." All that's missing is *SPOILER* *SPOILER* *SPOILER* her being tied up and pushed out of a boat.
