Pantyhole Blowers: 10 Celebrity Dudes You Had No Idea Had Outstanding Singing Voices

By Dustin Rowles | Seriously Random Lists | August 22, 2012 | Comments ()

Today had one of those incredible mornings where I realized just how insanely cool the Internet is. I spent a couple of hours randomly typing in “actor name” and “singing” on YouTube, and came up with what I consider 10 pretty great Internet treasures. Some of these guys are rather obvious (I just hadn’t heard them before), but I was surprised by some of the others.

If you’re time-crunched and being selective about which ones to listen to, I was particularly impressed with Damien Lewis’ Clash song, Jensen Ackles’ version of “The Weight,” and the mind-blowing prospect that Daniel Craig can actually sing. But my favorite is probably the Renner video (he doesn’t appear until halfway through).

Zachary Levi (singing “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”)

James McAvoy (from the TV Show Shakespeare Retold)

McAvoy also sings on this song for a kid’s show, Poetry Pie

Naveen Andrews (from the movie Wild West and yes, that’s his voice)

Jensen Ackles (singing The Weight, which was almost enough to provoke me to watch Supernatural)

David Tennant (and Catherine Tate) (I know they’d done Much Ado About Nothing together, but had no idea it was 1) a musical, and 2) that Tennant could carry such an awesome tune)

Mark Ruffalo (in a movie called On a Second Day of Christmas)

Josh Holloway (from the movie Mi Amigo)

Damian Lewis (with a brilliant accent!)

Daniel Craig (from the Infamous soundtrack. He plays guitar, too)

Tom Hiddleston

Jeremy Renner (!) (and Rosario Dawson) (Singing to Ryan Gosling)

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Uh... just so people know, season 8 of SPN is actually turning out to be pretty good. Like, the first episode not so much, but the second one? Holy shit. That was some pretty good writing. Plus loads of awesome character introductions. I think season 8 is gonna be worth watching seasons 6 and 7.
And... wow. I liek all of these things. Renner's is pretty great. And then of course there's Jensen. And Ruffalo. He totally Ruffalized that shit right there.

  • delle

I immediately thought of the ep of Battlestar Galactica where Alessando Juliani (Felix Gaeta) was singing while laid up in the infirmary...but perhaps he is not "celebrity" enough to make this list

  • pumpkin

    Stephen Colbert

(or does everybody already know about him?)

    accompanied by Elvis Costello:

  • ruby

It wasn't so much a musical as it was a production in which all the background music was played/sung by the cast. Except that song you've just posted-- I don't seem to remember hearing that. Maybe they recorded for the CD?

  • For crying out loud, Dustin. Just watch Supernatural already. It's a good show. Surprisingly funny, too.

  • Igor

Half of them dont deserve mentioning.

  • colpetty

I seem to remember a video where the black haired whathisface (Penn Badgely) from that gossip girl show covering Jeff Buckley's 'Lilac Wine' and absolutely nailing it.

Wait there it is... thank you internets

  • Eva Halloween

Your list lacks James Marsters, so therefore both boo and hiss, sir.

  • Alleyne

I can't believe Chris Pine, who has a legit voice, not just ability to karaoke, didn't make the list. Or Chris Evans. Or Chris Hemsworth. (Yes, ALL the Avengers can sing, we knew that about RDJr. And ScarJo before, though.) Also, for the tv fangirls, Michael Weatherly from NCIS has a smoldery voice like whoa.

  • Abbey Road

Nobody loves them more than me, but McAvoy, Ruffalo, & Hiddleston are strictly karaoke-grade stuff. Holloway & Craig aquit themselves well by not aiming too high, & everyone knows that knowing your limits is almost as good as talent. There's a reason that country features so prominently on this list (incl. Mr. Ackles, who lends country style although it's not a country song, exactly), & that is that with all the scooping & howling, your average Bassett hound would make a passable country singer.

Renner & Levi, though: I am legit impressed. & of course Hiddleston does get bonus points for showmanship. Tennant - impossible to tell w/ a studio recording. Show me something live.

  • Anne At Large

Nailed it. Renner and Levi have the chops. Hiddles I just want to hear more of, notwithstanding.

  • Prunella Vulgaris

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>

  • Prunella Vulgaris

i seem to be failing at this. but it's samuel l. jackson.

  • Prunella Vulgaris
  • shirleysparrow

Josh Holloway sounds wonderful. I think I mostly miss LOST for his smirk.

  • Pants-are-a-must

But more importantly, Tom Hiddleston can DANCE.

  • Resa Anderson

I can't get the damn embed to work, so I'm going to save the condescending "you must be new here" in light of my own failings. Instead, I'll just joyously share. Here you go!

  • Ash

Good lord, that Cymbeline video is like crack to me. Somebody take it away so I can get some work done...

  • Paul

"Celebrity Dudes?" Christ you're a wanker, Rowles.

  • annie

Not going to lie. I didn't give a shit about Jeremy Renner until I heard him sing New York State of Mind on Jimmy Fallon. Even Fallon looked surprised, and my clothes magically disappeared. (The rest of these guys are good, too, and Jensen Ackles is the most perfect-looking human beings, and the first 5 seasons of Supernatural are actually pretty great as a whole, but Renner's voice does it for me.)

FYI, Tate and Tennant's Much Ado isn't a musical. Those are just songs that played in the background, and if you want to watch it (which I HIGHLY recommend you doing), check out

  • BierceAmbrose

Renner's got chops. Rosario Dawson singing on stage and I'm paying any attention at all to anything else? That's talent.

  • Mr Shane

Oh great, I am now morally obligated to never hate on Jeremy Renner again.

  • e jerry powell

Nope. You have my permission to hate on Jeremy Renner for all of eternity.

  • PerpetualIntern

A .gif of that Tom Hiddleston dance at the end of his song would knock Paul Rudd's happy dance out of the water.

  • Resa Anderson

  • Mrs. Julien

I was hot and bothered for Zach Levi for about 8 minutes after Tangled. Just long enough to find out he's a born again Christian. Shortest. Lust. Ever. ever.

  • Alleyne

It's cool that he's a committed Christian. It's waaaaay uncool that he's a massive right winger & that he and Adam Baldwin used to have political discussion meetings with other Hollywood right wingers and guests like Newt Gingrich. Blech.

  • Aislinn

Oh God. Ladyboner for Levi lost FOREVER.

  • Mrs. Julien

    Sorry, man.

  • Anne At Large

Oh man! After that song I was so very intrigued. And now you killed it. Killed it DEAD.

  • stardust

My favorite example of this: Gary Oldman in a duet with David Bowie.

  • Fabius_Maximus

    Holy Hell!

  • Pat

Jensen Ackles needs to stop doing Supernatural because there's only so many free passes that he can get. But then I saw that video and remember how hard I used to fan girl for him. He can have as many free passes as he wants.

  • Nadine

You could have also linked to Renner singing in a film called Love Comes To The Executioner. It is...unbelievably, alarmingly sexy.

  • Teabelly

That's fine. The scream that went up when Jensen Ackles picked up the guitar made me pull a muscle in my neck.

  • gogotiff

McAvoy singing "You Are My Sunshine" in Penelope is pretty darn cute, too.

  • I believe that was the exact moment I fell in love with him.

  • maxpurr

    i need more singing renner!!

  • Lauren_Lauren

Jensen Ackles is one of my favorite men on the planet.

  • Sara

He's awesome in all ways. He does things to me that no "celebrity" ever has and I love him like there's no tomorrow.

  • Hawkeye

Here, here. Amazing man, multitalented, hard working, team player. Also, stunningly gorgeous AND he can sing. LOL Could someone please cast him in a once in a lifetime movie role impossible to refuse to get him off that damn CW show? His Dean Winchester is amazing but no actor should have to work that hard, all the time, attempting to salvage mediocre writing.

  • I am holding on to hope that this coming season will be better, but yes..I keep watching other tv shows and films and thinking damn, Jensen would rock that role! It's frustrating.

  • TheOriginalMRod

    Pantyhole blower... he heee..

    panties blown...

  • msjennijennjenn

Loved the Daniel Craig song. Amazing.

  • Lemon_Poundcake

I didn't think it was possible, but now I love him even more.

  • Mrs. Julien

  • PerpetualIntern

Oh Jesus. Jensen singing. I'm at work and can't watch the video, but just the idea of it. I'll be in my bunk.

  • llp

What a liberal workplace you have!

  • KatSings

Psh, Zachary Levi is no shock - he was Flynn in Tangled. I'll have to look at these at home where there are speakers that don't suck, but yay for random!

  • Manny

Still floored me with his singing voice at the Oscars.

  • And here I was having a crap day. Cheers, Rowles.

  • Phaedre

My mind is blown. My husband is going to thank Pajba when I'm through with him tonight.
Between this and the Hemsworth thing from before: It is on!

  • Allen

What about Stephen Moyer singing in 'True Blood'? I was pretty impressed with that.

  • blondefire

oh yeah, david can sing. check out 'blackpool'. david singing 'the gambler' into an ice cream? that's quality tv.

  • Tinkerville

Don't forget the synchronized head bobbing!

  • TheReinaG

I think that's the most recently I've seen Mary Stuart Masterson since I saw The Postman.

  • Yossarian

No one knows what it means, but it's provocative...
    it gets the people going

  • Resa Anderson

Renner doing "New York State of Mind" and Hiddleston singing Dylan's "Simple Twist of Fate" are superior examples to bolster your argument.

Go forth. Search. Thank me later.

  • Pants-are-a-must

SHUT. UP. That video of his impressions KILLED ME DEAD.

  • BierceAmbrose

Thank you Resa. Good Godtopus, Renner can sing. Is there a story, like he made a living singing before the movies took off for him?

  • AngelenoEwok

    I may love you.

  • I realize he's not as famous as these others, but I was surprised to learn that Hunter Parrish (Silas on Weeds) sings. (Yes I still watch Weeds. Don't judge. I got this far and felt obligated to watch the final season. Too bad it sucks...)

  • Sara_Tonin00

Aw...did you see Godspell? One review referred to him as "Jesus as a Stepford twink"

  • No, I didn't. Sadly, the Gulf Coast doesn't really get top tier performers in the traveling Broadway shows. :(

  • Maguita NYC

    Mark Ruffalo.

The only man deserving of surviving the Apocalypse, and repopulating the earth.

  • $27019454

    Yes! Ghaaaa!

  • linny

Oooh! Oooh! I volunteer my womb for that mission!

  • blacksred

    lining up behind you

  • Maguita NYC

Sorry chica, my electing Mark Ruffalo circumscribes my candidature for the role.

But you can definitely have him right after. Yes, I am that generous!

  • linnyloo

(broke down and got a damn disquis thinger.) Repopulating the earth is serious bizness. I don't mind sloppy seconds, future sister wife.

  • Maguita NYC

First, welcome to the uncomfortable stalker world that is disqus.

Second, I draw the line on long skirts and same tacky haircuts.

  • athena23

Goodness. Between the Jemsworth dancing and the Renner singing, I'm having quite the lion-sploding Avengers day. Gods bless, Interwebs.

  • Miley's Virus

What is it with all the lion-sploding? Lions have it hard enough, what with poachers, declining habitat, and the day to day difficulties of surviving in an environment that can be quite cruel. On top of that, we have you, sploding lions all over the place every time you see an action star singing or dancing. Mix it up a little, splode a few zebras, or maybe a penguin. Those little fuckers are just so smug.

  • athena23

To borrow from Dave Barry, Smug Penguins would be an excellent band name.

  • athena23

Heh. "Jemsworth" typo due to covered comment box but it works...

  • TK

That header pic makes me feel funny. Down there.

  • Pants-are-a-must

You have a Renner thing, admit it.

  • Agreed. I actually didn't read the post or check videos. Goodness, Rosario, hang tight I'll be right there!
