That picture of Peeta painting his arm to look like a tree is actually amazing. Can't wait for this movie to come out already!
And I know I'm in the minority here, but I still hate Kravitz as Cinna, he always seemed so suave and classy in the book. Can't think of anyone good to play him though so I'll just go with it.

Posted by: Irina at March 1, 2012 1:49 AM

@ Irina

Really? My dream casting of Cinna is either Prince or Sacha Baron Cohen as Brüno (minus the Bruno Personality).

But I think Lenny Kravitz was a good choice, Cinna is supposed to be cool and understated.

Posted by: Cathy at March 1, 2012 2:09 AM

My goth goddaughter forced me to take her to every. single. twilight film - now it's payback. I'm dragging her to the cinema by her hair if I have to.

Posted by: cinekat at March 1, 2012 3:23 AM

@ cathy
So when you think Lenny Kravitz, you think understated?

I have to say that Lenny as Cinna was the first real casting choice that made me go 'buh?' because in my head he was much younger - he wasn't one of the well known designers, District 12 was his first gig, so in my head, he was in his twenties but then Woody Harrelson wouldn't have been my first choice for Haymitch - but he's a solid actor so I have faith he'll pull it off.

Regardless, these pics make me verrrry happy, esp the Capitol lady carrying a birdcage, that's awesome. And Effie just looks PERFECT.

Posted by: TallulahBelle at March 1, 2012 5:09 AM

Children killing each other? Nope. Still don't care.

Although a friend of mine did point out that she thought the movie(s) would likely be better than the books, and I think she may be on to something.

Posted by: Samantha at March 1, 2012 6:22 AM

I have no idea what the fuck is going on in any of these images, but scrolling through them all reminds me of being forced to watch a genderless peacock's slideshow of the acid-inflected holiday it took into its own subconscious.

Posted by: zeke the pig at March 1, 2012 6:46 AM

It's like Julie Taymor and Alexander McQueen had an attractive baby.

Posted by: I Need More Allowance at March 1, 2012 8:38 AM

Also, Samantha, I think you're missing the point of the violence. It's not a lurid spectacle YOU'RE meant to cheer on. It's a lurid spectacle the assholes in the movie cheer on and the good guys see as a the most obvious indication of corruption, greed and inhumanity in the Capitol. It's supposed to upset you. Like Lord Of The Flies.

Posted by: I Need More Allowance at March 1, 2012 8:42 AM

You know what? I'm looking forward to this movie enough that I'm not even going to bother to nit pick. I know, you're all shocked.

Posted by: bleujayone at March 1, 2012 8:47 AM

Hunh. But if you were going to nitpick, admin?

Posted by: Grufalo at March 1, 2012 8:49 AM

That makeup looks amazing. Ve Neill may be on her way to her forth Oscar win for this film. Look at the damn tree arm. They're doing fantasy, high fashion, and gritty realism all in one film.

Posted by: Robert at March 1, 2012 9:05 AM

i'm so excited for this movie my nips might just pop right off

Posted by: kucheza at March 1, 2012 9:07 AM

I think it's very possible for the movies to be better than the books, and not because of Lenny Kravitz or Wes Bently (though I do wonder how long he had to keep his beard like that for the role, and what people thought when the saw him at the gas station). I'm rooting for Katniss to be stronger and smarter in the movies, but I spent three books hoping she'd get a clue, and my little heart can only take so much.

Isabelle Fuhrman as Clove?

HOW DID I MISS THIS?

If You’ve Been Waiting Since 1999 For Wes Bentley To Make Another Good Movie

Are you talkin' to me? Then who the hell else are you talking... //looks around// you talking to me? Well, I'm the only one here.

I had such high hopes for Wes Bentley. Wrong again.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at March 1, 2012 9:24 AM

Ok. Reluctant points for the fletching joke. /ArcheryNerd

Posted by: NateS1973 at March 1, 2012 9:29 AM

Well, looks like the 2012 Best Costume Design is locked up.

I'm fascinated by Wes Bentley's facial hair. That is magnificently awful. And those shots of Kravitz are making me question my sexuality, and I'm totally fine with that.

Posted by: Ghisent at March 1, 2012 9:39 AM

Yeah, Lenny wasn't my first choice for Cinna either, but I'm reserving judgement until I see the movie because I am SO EXCITED that I can't even properly bitch right now.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at March 1, 2012 9:46 AM

Which direction are you leaning, Ghisent? Are you for or against it?

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at March 1, 2012 9:49 AM

NateS1973 - better a fletching joke than a feltching joke.

Posted by: Bert at March 1, 2012 9:54 AM

Mrs. J, are you referring to Bentley's hair? I think it's remarkable, even though it's terrifying. But then, Wes Bentley has always been a bit creepy. So I think that, in context, it's fabulous.

Or are you talking about my Kravitz-induced sexual identity crisis? Well, under normal circumstances I'm usually straight, but, well, were he thrown my way, I suspect I'd swing for the fences.

Posted by: Ghisent at March 1, 2012 9:57 AM

God I hope none of these dystopian futures ever come true because the fashion sense in all of them is for shit.

Posted by: John W at March 1, 2012 10:03 AM

Nothing like som facial topiary to make me forget Four Feathers. I want to have, like, a million of Bentley's babies.

Posted by: Lockheed at March 1, 2012 10:14 AM

Eeep! So excited!

Posted by: PerpetualIntern at March 1, 2012 11:20 AM

I am really disappointed in Katniss's dress for the interview. That thing looks like a taffeta 80's prom dress reject from the Jessica McClintock archives. Grrrrrr.

Posted by: Donut Plains at March 1, 2012 11:33 AM

Look, maybe Lawrence can act - I have never seen her in anything, and therefore can't judge. But in not ONE of these photos is she actually making a facial expression. Is that a character choice?

Posted by: dsbs at March 1, 2012 12:15 PM

It's supposed to upset you. Like Lord Of The Flies.

Wait, it isn't a "how to?"

Posted by: BierceAmbrose at March 1, 2012 12:41 PM

#7! Hit the nail on the head!

Posted by: valerie at March 1, 2012 1:05 PM

You left out "Fans of Paula 'Trixie the Whore' Malcolmson."

Posted by: The Fatling at March 1, 2012 1:17 PM

Looks like they nailed the general "What the hell are they wearing" feel of the Capitol folk. I am still unsure how one makes a movie about a girl who never talks. I also wonder how many grown-ass men like myself will be in the theater to see this.

Posted by: Craigilicious at March 1, 2012 1:51 PM

Everything about it makes me giddy.

Posted by: ZombieMedic at March 1, 2012 1:58 PM

is it bad that i wanna see glimmer and katniss make out? both of them are so hot. even if i hated the books, which i dont, i love them, id go just to see them on the screen

Posted by: Sean at March 1, 2012 2:26 PM

#8 confuses me. Do girls in their teens actually like cavemen?

Posted by: FabMax at March 1, 2012 2:44 PM

2012: Year of the Fletcher indeed! And 2011 gave them an appetizer with We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at March 1, 2012 4:31 PM

Lenny Kravitz...Christ. That's probably the only one of my teenage crushes to survive into adulthood. Because...look at that man!

I'm going to refrain from commenting on the movie itself because it will mostly make me sound like a 12 year old Twi-tard.

Posted by: Joker at March 1, 2012 4:41 PM

This year is gonna be such an archer's wet dream.

Posted by: Pat at March 1, 2012 11:58 PM

@dsbs Yeah I'd say it's a character choice for Katniss to be so stoic - in the story she describes how she masks the anger/fear/sadness she feels about her world. This skill of projecting a persona also comes up as a strategy for getting through the games.

I think Lawrence is capturing this, and, really, looking back through the pictures, she's got some real emoting going on in a handful the images. The character she played in Winter's Bone was pretty similar to Katniss, so if she does that again, I'll be satisfied.

Posted by: giv at March 2, 2012 9:13 PM

Peeta is SO fucking miscast.

Posted by: Maryscott O'Connor at March 3, 2012 1:23 PM

@giv, between posting that, and posting this, I read the book. I still think she looks like a Real Doll in the pictures, but I've watched the movie trailers, do, and she does come across as human (and pretty great) in them, so I'll stop being mean. For now.
